  • Your smoking history can significantly affect your rate class. Life insurance companies may use your smoking history to determine your rate class.

  • Tobacco Products include pipes, cigars, chewing tobacco, dip, snuff, nicotine patches and gum. Use of these products will categorize you as a smoker. Life insurance rates will be significantly affected by your cigarette use history or your tobacco use history. If you are a smoker, affordable life insurance can still be purchased. IMPORTANT: Height and Weight Guidelines and Medical Guidelines, offer basic guidelines as to how most companies will classify you (preferred plus, preferred, standard) based on medical and personal issues. If you do not meet one or more of the requirements listed in the preferred or preferred plus columns, please select Standard classification when calculating your quotes.

IMPORTANT: Even if you apply as a standard or preferred risk, our companies will offer you their very best possible rates (preferred, preferred plus ) whenever possible. A preferred smoker term life insurance rate may vary even among the companies we work with.

Generally a simplified physical exam is required to obtain most types of term life policies. The physical exam can be completed at your home or other convenient location. The exam generally takes only about 15-30 minutes and is conducted by a licensed paramedical or medical doctor. The exam generally involves a blood and urine specimen, blood pressure reading, height and weight measurements, and a series of questions regarding your medical history will be asked.

If you have questions, please contact us and we will provide you with additional information.

** Your classification will ultimately be determined by the underwriting insurance company. Actual requirements will vary slightly from company to company.
